Luxury vinyl plank is the best all around choice for an Iowa basement because it is 100 percent waterproof, handles the humidity swings of a below grade space, and installs directly over concrete. Sheet vinyl and tile are also solid options. Solid hardwood is not recommended below grade because moisture causes it to cup and gap.
Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) is made in long, narrow planks designed to look like hardwood, while luxury vinyl tile (LVT) comes in squares or rectangles designed to look like stone or ceramic tile. Both are waterproof, wear layer rated, and installed the same way. The choice is purely about the look you want in the room.

Yes, and we strongly recommend it. Lighting in your home is different from showroom lighting, and a color that looks warm under our lights can read gray in your living room. Take samples home, look at them in morning and evening light, and lay them next to your cabinets and wall color before you commit.
